what page of chapter one implies he was the one who was dumped?

I just read back through it, and saw nothing that gives that impression. If anything, the flashback to him overhearing classmates gossiping/talking shit about him on p.17 would imply that his insecurities lead to him breaking up with her to "protect her image" among their peers.
