MC is actually really caring and hardworking deep down. Yeah, I hope he and Tsuzura can get back together soon :meguu:

I like the episodic nature of this for now because it gives us insight into the many things they did together. But what makes it more than simple nostalgia is how those shared experiences keep resurfacing and reinforcing what they already knew about each other. Like Ritsu remembering that Sana likes peach scented wipes. It is proof that even the smallest moments left a lasting imprint. Yet there are also things he did not know and is only just now learning, like Sana happily eating mackerel not because she loves it but because Ritsu does. That is the beautiful thing about this dynamic. Some memories confirm what was already understood, while others quietly reveal layers that were always there but never spoken aloud.

Thanks for the translation!

This is true to the point, if the reason they split is really low stakes or idiotic even for middle/high school age teens it could hurt the seeming good vibes between them. As long as neither has done something to harm the other side too much it makes sense there's as many lingering feelings as there are.

Refreshing to have the meekness of the MC be because he either failed in the relationship before? Or ended it? instead of him being like uwu owo why would a girl ever so much as look at me, I'm just a mob. Ah well, I'll enjoy till we get some clarity on the break up.

Thanks for the TL.

He's just a serious person and overthinks everything like a lot of teenagers (heck adults even) do.

Clear to see why FMC likes him so much, hopefully we get to see what led up to this point soon.

How did he ever manage to date her in the first place, lmao :haa:
Yeah, becoming a boyfriend in a manga is like dozens or hundreds of chapters worth of progress, a serious deal.
If he's still as skittish as the kind of gloomy MC who never even talked to a girl before, it means the breakup must've been truly trauma-inducing, causing a massive loss of confidence.

It's being reinforced every chapter that she actively remembers a lot of stuff from when they were together, to the point he influenced her tastes and likes and she still carries those preferences and behaviors into the present day, even after they were at different schools for an entire year post-breakup.
That tells me that she's liked him this whole time, and coupled with the short flashback in chapter 1 of him overhearing other people badmouthing his "relative social standing" compared to her,I would be surprised if he didn't break up with her out of some sort of courtesy move (in his mind).

I briefly thought that maybe it was a mutual ending of things because she was graduating middle school a year before him, and being apart like that meant it was better to simply call it off. But the way he's been acting since running into her on the bus in chapter 1, I cannot imagine that it was mutual between them, and that he carries considerable negative feelings from the breakup.
But, everything about her attitude and behavior in every interaction with him doesn't feel like the sort of thing you'd expect from an ex that broke up with you. And since he was so caught up in her standing compared to his, I feel like that cements that he broke up with her because he didn't want her image hurt by being connected to him.

And importantly - the moment they broke up and she left for high school, he put 100% of his time and energy into studying and trying to pursue academic success...to the point that I'm guessing he leaned all the way into being some "gloomy bookworm type" who didn't build any concrete friendships during his final year in middle school. He's awkward with everyone, not just her, after all.

So this is the ML not actually meaningfully addressing his shortcomings that lead to him giving up a relationship that meant a lot to the both of them, and the manga's plot is the FL re-entering his life in order to help him actually confront himself and grow as a person.

Which is why every chapter has an interaction with them, and then a flashback that contextualizes his internal anxiety and turmoil. Then he makes a bunch of assumptions about how she must have perceived things then and now, and then the truth comes out when she actually speaks her mind and her perspective, and he realizes that his assumptions were misplaced.

Eventually (hopefully), he'll internalize just how much he's getting wrong when simply presuming her feelings on a given matter, and start to realize that what he thinks isn't lining up with reality. And if that is the case, then it would reinforce his original, biggest error, in breaking up with her because of his assumptions of her being hurt by classroom gossip.
In the process, I'm guessing the goal is for him to both gain confidence in himself, but also to trust in his partner and to actually communicate, since doing so actually dispels a lot of the worst fears and anxieties that he's been holding onto.

The first chapter heavily implies it was peer pressure that caused him to break up with her. We're shown that in middle school he was even more bookish, complete with glasses. We're also shown that she was popular enough to be the subject of idle gossip.

Like the fact her boyfriend was such a mismatch that other kids found it an outright embarrassing example of bad taste. Just one of likely multiple conversations he overheard where people were badmouthing her, because of her relationship with him. So he very probably broke up with her so as to not "drag her down" or some such.

Pretty classic "she's too good for me"-type deal, really.

This guy really needs to stop eavesdropping on other people's conversations and making up scenarios about what he's heard. I bet he broke up with her because he overheard people mocking her for dating a boring guy, and then created an entire franchise of movies in his mind about it.
