Would anyone besides the author and those that have read a dozen similar stories even know WTF is going on? This is the FIRST CHAPTER and nothing is explained, we don't know anyone's name besides the MC, we know nothing about the setting or world, and we can only assume he came from our world since that's always the case. It's not that ALL of this needs to be explained in the first chapter but you need to set at least some of this up before you go into the "meet hot girl and start harem" part.

Because if we don't know who anyone or what anything is why should we give a damn about these characters? Now chances are the author will eventually answer most of those questions. But this is still the worst way to start a story as it's relying entirely on the popularity of the Isekai genera to get you invested instead of giving us anything to really look forward to. If the chapter at least spent it's time explaining stuff then it could be okay. But the author couldn't even be bothered to explain what soul grass is or why those people want it so bad. Again we can't get invested in the MC's crisis if we don't even understand anything about this world or the crisis.

This appears to take place in a Chinese cultivation setting. In these settings some plants have special properties, like making you live longer. These people chasing him are like 1000+ year old sword wizards who think they’ll get stronger if they eat him.

If there are enough popular stories like this people will start to generally understand the setting, but this is obviously not the case yet.

This seems like it’ll be trash-tier anyways though.

I remember reading a web novel of someone else also reincarnating as grass but his fateful encounter was instead being stepped on by some big shot cultivator of that certain area. Also have a system to convert stuff to raise his evolution path and cultivation..
