Also, this chapter finally pushed me to go back and make some edits to chapter 1. First, we had just been letting the usage of "tonnes" for hai slide, but this chapter makes it clear that it's not a mass or volume term, it's a weird payload mass fraction term that seems specific to each ship. I've had a hellacious week, so I'm not about to start digging into the rocket equation to figure it out at the moment. Second, we didn't have context for "Terra Tell-Tale", so when Diode refers to her by that name in the first chapter, we just left it as "Terra Terute".

Since it looks like Terra morphed the vessel into a flying wing, I wonder if she reverse-engineered the concept through the power of her imagination, or if the concept is well known to them but most women are discouraged from altering the shape of the vessel into anything too crazy

It may also be a question of pilot skill and comfort, flying wings do tend to be dynamically unstable. I'd guess that couples would typically prefer to fly safely within their comfort zones. But since Terra and Diode are both trying really hard to impress one another by helping the other get what they want out of fishing, they're really testing the limits of what the pillar boat can do.
