He's pretty much "make a girl character but draw her as a guy instead".

Whenever I read this there's this little voice in my head telling me that this boy would get torn apart in our society.

Thank god he's just an adorable manga character...

@Simkin Where are you located? It's not exactly easy for queers in the US, but it's getting easier.
Japan... not so easy. Getting better fast, but rights aren't great nationally. Certain cities have LGBT rights.
I'm probably being way too pedantic, but I wasn't sure which society.

Huh? He's just a kid.
I see nothing girly about wanting a gift from your crush to not be lost. Or being shy about accidentally letting it slip.
He uses notably masculine speech in Japanese.

You want him to be an emotionless thug or something?

The title of this manga should be "My son is 100% gay"

@Kiriha Nothing about him has been explicitly feminine, he just gets flustered easily. You can be in touch with your emotions and still be a man.

@Thrembs

I'm talking about Western and Japanse society. True, "getting torn apart" is a bit hyperbolic, but anything LGBT is still very much frowned upon in Japan. And a sweet boy like him, with his 'carelessness', would be a very easy target in any highschool and his life be made a living hell. He doesn't deserve that, nobody deserves that, but I think it's still very much a reality for people with such a background.
