Thanks for the translation and the younger brother is pretty awesome when he puts his brother on the wall.

If his mom loves him so much she should take him to get a better haircut. 🌺

I love how he is oblivious about the fact that his mother knows. Then again, I can't imagine how hard it must be for the boy, especially in Japan...

Ahh, that feeling of slightly-embarrassed happiness that comes from hearing that someone thinks you’re cute/cool.

Is it taboo to be gay in Japan? I wouldn't assume considering trans people seem to be fine

Yes? Japan is still fairly conservative, all things considered. They just show their views in subtler ways.

The way I see it, Japan's kinda like a step or 2 behind the west in terms of social progress like that. I think they're currently in the "I'll accept that it exists but I don't wanna see it publicly" phase, just like we went through a couple decades back.
I think just like America though, a lot of the younger kids (Like, current middle/high school students) are coming around to the acceptance. Japan's just got that declining birth rate and all so there's just still too many old farts set in their ways hanging around. But idk citation needed.

@gomichandesu I agreed. Change takes time and Japan has been moving forward. They do stumbling a few times, but I think things are getting better (not Persona series tho. After what they did with Kanji in P4, it's a shame they add token pervert-rapey transgendered in P5 again).

Even in my country, Thailand (yes we get the shemale joke a lot), while transgendred of all forms are almost normal and accepted, the media still can't seem to get pass using Trans as joke characters.

@lightingcloud

what do you mean by "especially in Japan"?

There is relatively little bigotry and homophobia in Japan – particularly when compared to the treatment that many Americans still receive when they come out.

This does not mean that the Japanese fully accept homosexuality but they don’t have the history of hatred that I find to be common in the West. In fact, it surprised me to learn that most of the negative stigmatism associated with being gay in Japan was adopted from Western cultures and is not traditionally a part of Japanese culture. Quite the opposite, there is more of a history of acceptance in Japan than homophobia because during the Heian period, there were several very famous and powerful samurai and shogun who had male lovers. Yet despite being openly (though not flamboyantly gay), they were still accepted and respected as powerful leaders.

In many cases among younger people you probably won’t even have a reaction, it will be more of a “oh, okay” sort of response than a big deal.
