Just because our rational mind makes us who we are, doesn't mean it's the same thing as honesty. Sometimes lying is more rational. It can even be argued that sometimes acting in an immoral (to use the other meaning of honesty as moral integrity), is also more rational, depending on what are your aims.

Rationality is a positive trait. Honesty is as well. Healthy human beings find an appropriate way to balance the two. That is so despite the fact the two of them clash at times, as do many other qualities.

people are severely misunderstanding what the memory erasing gun actually does. its doesn't make a person more honest, it literally deletes the prefrontal cortex, which manages self control and inhibition. the reason the girl and the guy went crazy is because they no longer have the part of the brain which is responsible for lying and future reasoning. the gun gives brain damage by inhibiting the neural pathways responsible for memory recovery. she melted their brains, which is clearly stated when she mentions that humans have weak recovery abilities in their brains. an extremely horrifying and terrible consequence of alien technology. the implications of what has happened to vice-prez are far more serious than most readers currently understand

No Thriller tag either. I got lured in with promises of RomCom but stayed because it's actually an excellent thriller, yet if someone were to search for Thriller series this wouldn't come up in the search.
