Video is out. It's 2 hours long. I didn't watch it yet, but the author did answer some interesting questions about the characters and the tone of the story.
This is all AI that combed through the video so some things may not be 100% accurate. I didn't get every single question/comment in the video. If I get someone who can work through the full transcript, I'll post a better follow-up but otherwise I might do it myself using Youtube's auto-translate in the future.
- The editor was asked how the author balances such dark themes with a bright aesthetic. Nakaura explained that the "sparkly" art acts as a necessary buffer; without it, the manga would be too painful to read.
- Fans in the video wanted Ueno to be protected (cute, lol).
- The story is at the halfway point. (The author did mention that the series could wrap up around Winter 2026("sometime next year").
- The ending will be a "Happy Ending." The author wants the story to conclude with a sense of "forgiveness" or "salvation" for Ueno rather than tragedy.
- Ueno's backstory will be explored as the story approaches the final arc.
- Author talked about how the bullies used to be generic before he fleshed them out with to be more distinctive. He also talked about how Chisaki became more obsessive than originally planned.
- The author also talked about how complicated the relationship the bullies have with Ueno. They initially to bully him out of amusement but as they developed Ueno, a twisted attachment formed (" Are they bullies or Ueno's fans?").
- They discussed the Volume 4 "Gender Swap" bonus chapter and how the chapter made editor aware of the danger of the bullying. The author mentioned making Ueno a cute male made the series work.
- Lots comments about the art style and characters designs looking clean to balance the darker tone. The eyes in particular make Ueno look cute and innocent.
- While the background characters might suspect the bullying, they think the bully trio are just playing around with Ueno and majority of the bullying happens out of their view. ( I remember a few comments on this site wondering why Moka is O.K hanging out with Chisaki and her friends even though they clearly make Ueno uncomfortable.)
- Fans want an anime of this series and listed voice actors to play the characters.
- Fans also want physical merch...it's being worked on.
- Apparently, there's a large amount of female readership?!( I need to watch this video...)
- They also talked about how popular this series is on the website. They also talked about this series had multiple reprints and how some fans noticed volume 5 sold out in some bookstores. Not only that, but they also mentioned the foreign fans of this series.
