It's what came to mind first to me too, but it's important to realize that you can't easily go by a translation's exact wordings as foreshadowing.

But yes, that seems a possibility for sure. I'm relieved this manga still has juice in the tank with new characters or intrigue, because that previous chapter smelled so much like axe. (very unlikely to happen anytime soon though, this manga is doing very well in Ciao)
