The original concept of the game as such? Or just story? I just used to read old mangas and they shocked me with their silly moe-ish CGDCT element compared to how mature and interesting the story was after PAWORKS' intervention.

story... pretty much raising these umamusume who inherited the names of famous horses from other world then make sure they perform at the end of the races.

that's the gist of the old concept. same as currently but delves deeper on the events that happened under that horse's name. Though it is still the same moe stuff in its core, if not for cute and moe stuff, we wouldn't get Rice Shower in the game, remove moe and cute stuff from Rice Shower and it is just Cascade from Midori no Makibao.
