Most likely a left/right, good/bad superstition, religious, or cultural view. She offered her left hand to greet her the first time they met, and in her mind, it's "bad" in some way, like she's looking down on Oguri, thinks less of Oguri, or views Oguri as being below her. She didn't offer her left hand in respect, but actually in disrespect.

Now, she views that as a mistake, and should have offered her right hand from the start. In her mind, offering her right hand means she respects Oguri, and is genuinely sincere in her words of comradery and friendship.

There is long-embedded historical and cultural beliefs across many cultures that the left hand is associated with evil and impurity. Left handed handshakes are considered taboo for this reason for those who care about this sort of thing.

I couldn't find concrete evidence of this in a (Japanese) martial arts context, as bowing is the tradition over Western handshakes. But apparently the understanding that a lefthanded handshake is considered "incorrect" is pervasive enough that Kazumi-sensei needed to tell the editors that the handedness was intentional, not a mistake, in the initial chapter.

So as a translator's note here: "sinister" is not even really a pun. It derives from the original historical usage and frankly in my opinion is the only correct choice here.

Fyi: the original Japanese contains gikun of 敵意 (hostility) over the base 左手 (left hand).
