Oh yeah, what's a shipping thread without some fragile fanboys throwing angry reactions to any of your comments just because you have a different view on their OTP?

UPD. Lol, by continuing to do this you clearly don't refute any accusations.

Seems this was the pot calling the kettle black,
What's really stupid is continuing to throw out the most obvious bait in the hopes that people will react even when they've clearly indicated they understand what you're doing. But okay, if you've already jumped to direct attacks so quickly, I'll just mute you and that's it. I won't even address it directly to you, because you restlessly check this thread for updates anyway.

You should probably take a break from the internet if this has gotten you so upset. It isn't that serious. I assure you

Dude, you literally downvoted every comment I made in this thread just because I have a different view of your ship. Even those where I pointed out a clear attempt to bait me with emotions. You're clearly not the one who should be calling me out for being overly sensitive online. It's not that serious, that's what you said, right?

Yet you're the one throwing a tantrum and shitting up the thread replying to what you called easy bait and are throwing a bigger fit over a random hitting you with reactions

You should take a deep breath, and stop checking your inbox if you're actually this upset over this

Throwing a negative reaction to every comment I make/pretending that blatant trolling wasn't blatant trolling @ unironically suggesting that I'm the one taking this shit too seriously. Lmao, this isn't even funny anymore. I'll just mute you like the last troll and move on.

Well, have fun being mad over internet strangers, I'm sure that's a good use for your time

We cant have nice things such as friendship and rivalries in a sport manga with so many pornbrained individuals around smh
This is largely due to the fact that original Japanese media generally prefers to maintain the status quo and drop some fuel for ships to those who want it, rather than engage in standard Western "canon" debates. This was even parodied in one of the seasonal shows. But overseas, people are so obsessed with canon that any shipable potential immediately becomes a religious doctrine with a dedicated group of believers and all that entails.

Ultimately, every time franchises like these try to release content for a wide variety of audiences, it only feeds that folk's shipping goggles, convincing them that they are the end target one, and not just another part of the fandom with their own way of enjoying the media.

But the lengths some people take this really impresses me, regardless. Just imagine reacting angrily to every comment in a thread from someone who questions your ship while unironically trying to chide them for supposedly "going mad on strangers."

No one here said they didn't like this ship. Some people are just too fragile to hear that someone doesn't consider their OTP canon...And judging by the latest responses and continued downvoting, they are too immature to realize their really unhealthy blatant projections as well.

Except it wasn't a shipping disagreement, it was one person throwing a tantrum that people brought up the ship. And they're still doing it, hours later. It really isn't healthy behavior.

I generally land on the side of "Yuri fans think every female friendship is gay" but Cygames canonically has pushed this pairing pretty hard

Yeah, that event was really not subtle in any way and it was really cute to see them interact the way they did. It is basically as implied as it gets without outright spelling it out, like Ruby and Helios, or Cheval and Kitasan.

I literally wrote above that such franchises prefer the status quo, periodically adding fuel to this or that ship. The key difference is that it's nothing more than fuel, or often even just fanservice, rather than some kind of "implication" or "canonical" promotion, as if you can non-canonically promote shipable pairing, lmao. They've also promoted a bunch of ships in their time, and they're still nothing more than canonical rivals or friends. Starting with Silence Suzuka and Special Week themselves.

Even if we put aside the pressure from horse owners, this is a franchise for everyone, and they offer people a wide variety of experiences that they can do with as they please. It's much more diverse and interesting than the obsession with the search for some one true dogmatic canon among Western pro-shippers. For example, you could ship McQueen with Goldshi or with Café. Or simply consider all three of them friends with a fun dynamic. It's all up to you, and this approach isn't new or unique to Japanese media.

This mini-arc, among other things, deliberately emphasizes their status as fateful rivals on the same field, rather than some sort of actual lovers or anything else. Cygames obviously won't mind if you interpret them this way, but don't let yourself forget the context around it (including the event's one from which you took this CGI), like those weirdo trolls above. Especially when your comment itselfs seems to imply mocking, as yuri fans consider any shipable friendship "implied romance" because they can't prove it outright.

I think I broadly agree with you. I'm generally annoyed by this trend of interpreting any close relationship as romantic (not limited to yuri) as if a relationship cannot be deeply meaningful without romance or sex. And people insisting on one pairing over all others is dumb, especially in a series that plays it as fast and loose with its canon as Umamusume.

What I meant by "Cygames canonically has pushed this pairing" is that they've given this particular relationship quite a bit of fuel in the game's story and spinoff, sometimes in ways that heavily imply a romantic bent (the whole "getting in my knees and proposing"/"what is this tingly feeling in my chest" are hard to miss). While Cygames will obviously never make them an actual romantic couple, it's totally fair to see their relationship in that light. Like you said, the developers clearly encourage fans to interpret these dynamics however they like. Saying that it's just "desperate shipping goggles" feels a bit dismissive to me.

In any case, I'm happy for Bakushin and Flight's rivalship and wish them happiness and many races to come.

I understood exactly what you meant :D. I wanted to say that any content and its development is canonical and intentional, because it can't be accidental or unconscious. Therefore, I don't think the word "canonical" is the right one here. What you're referring to is the typical "it makes sense in context" approach. Like when Special Week said she was in love with (running) Silence Suzuka. Sometimes things get amplified or diminished depending on the translation, but that's a separate topic. As I said above, I don't think Sygames intentionally wanted to convince people of anything, but usually this kind of homoerotic subtext is used to sell things on multiple levels, depending on the audience.

Like in one of the seasonal shows I mentioned, where the heroine asks "wait, where's the BL in this battle shonen-ish manga?", and then fujo criticizes her and insists that's the point because "true BL is how she can read the emotional connection between characters," you get the idea. The Japanese prefer interpretive shipping to Western-style "confirmation or denial at the end" shipping, so it's quite convenient for them, and a single franchise can effectively have several distinct audiences. Of course, as long as it doesn't become too pervasive, like when they were forced to ban NSFW fan art and doujinshi.

As for the desperate shipping goggles, I meant that people aren't just intentionally interpreting things to enjoy them the way they want, but are simply starting to see the most ordinary or clearly meaningful things as "overtly romantic." Including finding "unambiguous" romantic signs in those moments that have a clear development and indicate how Bakushin reacts to a worthy opponent. Like in Avatar Korra, where people were found of teasing Korra x Asami for several seasons before the writers even decided to develop it as canon, lmao. I hope you get my point. I don't see their shipping as a problem per se, it just looks like an attempt to subordinate every interaction they have to that narrative.
