That doesn't mean what I said couldn't be true too. 100% she's a natural-born trickster who enjoys being who she is. In fact her not understanding other people (or why they don't understand her) is very much a potential motive for wanting to keep them at arm's length.
Both the games and anime have had her show genuinely emotionally vulnerable moments. They're quite rare but they're there. And even then she's quite cagey even at her most tender. Thinking both the beach event with McQueen and the good ending of her career mode. (and a couple of subtle examples from late in both S2 and S3 of the anime)

So yeah, I think this is consistent. Sugina is entering WAY too close to her heart's personal boundaries for her comfort. I know it sounds like I'm reading too much into a 100% silly chaotic gag manga, but I think the silly chaos works even better because it's playing off consistent characters.

For the record, I did provide various canon examples of Golshi breaking her usual character and displaying more depth than normal. It's not headcanon or interpretation, it's observation. And yeah my contention is that Golshi being extremely lowkey multifaceted is part of why this utter chaos manga is so funny to begin with. At least that's true for me.

(This isn't really unusual for the umamusume in general, either. Agnes Tachyon is a great example "what you see isn't all of what you get")

But yeah please, no one fight over this. Everyone is entitled to enjoy this manga on whatever terms they like.

EDIT: I'll admit that it IS interpreting on my part that Golshi keeps people at arm's length, though.
