Umiko, I feel you about the TV reaction people. I also don't like the lingering shots of multiple people emoting that are supposed to inform the audience's own reactions.
The talks about burnout and quitting always hit me hard. Despite how sad it is, I do love Umiko's observation that she and Kai are on separate seas right now. It's a good metaphor for both of their journeys at this point. Umiko's feelings about her capabilities, drive, and physical reality not matching up are very real.
Kai and Sora are both worried about her, but she's powering through! It's so cute how happy the students are that she's doing okay.

thank you for the chapter!! umiko in the first page looks so cool. i'm not a big movie person so i didn't catch the reference so thank you for pointing it out 
i really hope she's actually feeling better and it's not solely a front with the way she cheered up at the end! also, the talks in the middle about feeling lost was interesting to read; i guess i've always thought that these feelings come from a sort of youthful melodrama and been afraid of having my work read too juvenile due to over self-reflection that would be resolved with more life experience and time, but umiko's story is really just a cycle of self-reflection and experiencing, so i guess at the end of the day it's the same for anyone when you want to create
