What in the fuck is happening... I wasn't supposed to feel anger whilst reading a cute yuri, but this is just getting way too dumb, way too fast...

@Wachtail

Why would it be “cute”? It set itself up for drama from the start and the auctor is known for love drama.

Was there ever any indication that this would be “cute”? Or is that just something you assume because “hurr durr, girls are cute”?

I should have known not to expect much. Dunno why, but I've never read a really good manga called "something or other days".

People complaining about the story obviously did not know what they were getting into. This is how the author is, with everything. If it doesn't suit you, don't read it. It will still have a good ending so if you are waiting for that then I guess you can either stick around, or wait for the series to be over and just read the final chapter to get the kind of yuri you are looking for. Kodama is a predictable author, but some people are okay with that.

@AndrewFK even authors who have usual preferences can sometimes mellow them out or forgo them for certain works. I mean heck, Nanashi used to do hardcore cannibal guro and now Nagatoro is pretty much pure fluff, so it's not too crazy to hope that an author might tone down some of their traits for a certain work.

In any case, I don't have a problem with drama. The problem is for this drama to work the characters have to be very stupid, which hurts the overall story. It's just not fun to read. I'll probably keep checking the comments, but I'll probably forgo reading until things get a little less wonky.

@trapsarebetter @AndrewFK Most people aren't familiar with the author when they start reading comics. And even if that wasn't the case, the fact that the author loves drama doesn't excuse the fact that the writing so far has been extremely bad, making the main characters, the people we are supposed to get invested in, utter morons and unrelatable.

95% of mangas that take place in high schools with MC's in X year are extremely predictable, but they sell because the writing is up to snuff.

@Chet31 And all of that still justifies not the claim that it was “supposed to be a cute yuri”. It isn't cute, and never claimed it would be.

Furthermore, there is certainly no rule that anyone is supposed to be “invested” in any of the main characters or that they are supposed to be relatable — not everyone wants to read about himself.

main character is still recovering from this nearly lifelong abusive relationship, her actions make some sense. and characters are talking to each other, the plot isn't being totally held together by misunderstanding.

But I always do find the abusers motivations hard to understand and it's the same here.

I love how so many comments loved this story when it began, back when it was about Mayumi adjusting to her new life and bonding with Rin. Now that the drama has settled in, people are suddenly claiming that the writing was bad all along.
Just saying, plenty of stories start out good and then fizzle out with time. How does that suddenly make the entire story bad?
