This actually had me tearing up a bit 😅 I've had quite a few experiences like that over the years. Inui-sensei is real lucky to have found someone who can help her be strong like that. Screw those people, seriously !

To be honest my reaction would be exactly like that man when i see lesbian couple blatantly out in public. But then again, i never saw one and they should not just out in bright daylight in my country. Highly uncommon and borderline dangerous

Damn, I'm sure he was really just trying to tell his girlfriend "Look at that, a perfect couple, why can't we be more like that?"

@Newholder don't treat people like they're circus attractions. It's not hard. And if it's really actually dangerous to be openly gay in whatever country you're from, then you're not contributing to change that by treating gayness as if it's this bizarre thing that you really need to point out. It's just normal people going about their lives.

@JKTV yes until I'm figuring out to change that habit

@WhereTheYuriAt sorry, force of habit. Anything is circus attraction in my country. Showing too much skin, instant head turn. Too pretty, instant head turn. Anything out of the ordinary, instant head turn.

I really dont get it, tbh. My reaction would be the same as that guy. "Oh cool! Never seen a lesbian couple before!"

It's not mean, and its not unthinking either. At worst it could be described as curious.

Its not like he yelled "Oh hey lesbians!" And drew a bunch of attention to them. Someone below said dont treat them like circus attractions, and thats not what he did. You are allowed to be interested in other people, and as long as you arent rude about it, who cares?

Gay people are not a circus to watch, no matter what intention is behind, good or bad. Don't do that. Be better.

@Froggyrules Inui-sensei is out here talking about this guy years after the fact, she drew a comic about it to exemplify bad behaviour and literally said there are plenty of people who would be hurt by his reaction, to the point she even worried her gf was affected... How much more clear can it be that he drew a ton of attention and that it was extremely rude? Even his own gf is shown to be angry/embarassed by him and he seems to not be able to take a clue.

This kind of stuff is othering, it makes you feel like you don't belong, like you're not 'normal'... Don't do this.

Nobody is asking you to completely vanish the thought of surprise from your mind, cause you can't control that, but you very much do control everything beyond mere thoughts and this dude was an ass who caused a real scene. Even if it's the first gay couple he's seen IRL in his entire life, so what? He's not five years old, he should be past the need to point out every single thing he sees for the first time and especially so when it's not a thing, but a person.

Smile and move on. A smile is shorthand for support/I don't mind/sorry to bother you with my staring-like-a-kid, moving on is saying you can share the space without drama. No one likes being stared at, getting whispered about behind your back. No one. So don't. If you gotta, tell your companion later and take the heat when they ask you why it matters, because honestly, it shouldn't matter to you. 🤷

This obviously is a thing lots of people don't think about so I'm happy this chapter is making us talk about it. :)

Honestly, unless you're a kid and just don't know any better, there shouldnt be any reason for anyone to be so shocked at a loving couple being out in public. If you're simply being curious, how about starting a conversation ? It beats staring and heck, most of us lady gays are actually quite friendly when you get to know us ! Do you have any idea how incredibly hurtful it is to have someone just stare at you like you're going to grow wings or something?

I'm so oblivious as to what was going on that I thought why is he trying to get his girlfriend's attention? I was confused about whether the couple wasn't getting along so great and she was ignoring him. Honestly I was just totally confused. Thank you comment section for clearing that up for me.
Edit: There was small text I apparently couldn't/didn't see.
