Bro, there's no way, absolutely NO WAY, this manga wasn't influenced by the manga adaptation of Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru: Tada no Inaka no Kenjutsu Shihan Datta noni, Taisei shita Deshi-tachi ga Ore wo Hottekurenai Ken, which has been a huge success in Japan, with something like 5 million copies in circulation in just 6 volumes (Also, almost no one talks about it in the West lol)

Funny enough, if you google the Japanese name of this manga or search the name on Twitter, one of the first results is a tweet in Japanese making this comparison too, so at the very least I wasn't the only one who was like, "Hold on."
