I believe that word is used for the kind of 2nd person view system where the main character isn't shown most of the time and the other characters (especially the main love interest) are basically facing the "camera" (the reader), typically simply calling the main character/reader as "you", unless a name is absolutely needed. Whenever the main character then needs to be shown, it's the featureless, eyeless monster.
