I know it's a pain in the ass to translate signage in the background, but maybe translate the enormous words that take up an entire panel when it's the punchline to a joke.
@Fujiwara_no_Sai Weak. Hella weak. I wonder how you will handle the very first chapter of nagatoro if you cant even handle this shit. But what you say is kinda true tho, this trope is becoming annoying very quickly.
@SaitamaShinobu
*grins* Seriously. There are manga that bring me to literal tears. Some have me dying of laughter, so much so that I find myself stepping away from the screen to gasp for air.
But this trope? It's been done, overdone and really really really overdone. Now? It's sitting in the cast iron skillet just producing a weak vapour from the ashes within.
Perhaps some folks see Manga as a kind of Purgatory, where they feel obliged to read a certain percentage of trash publications in order to truly attain to Otaku-hood. Me? Pfft. I feel no such obligation.
I like a good story. And I can accept a broad spectrum of settings. But Sadistic-deres are in fact very quickly annoying, especially since I'm "lured in" with the "Comedy" tag only to wonder what kind of person finds this stuff even remotely funny. Take Rental Girlfriend. Sorry, gotta bury the rest under "Spoiler" ... *sigh*
Where are they? 158 or so chapters? Has the MC made any progress with the girl he rents? Of course not. She's still dating other guys, etc.
So thanks for the feedback, Shinobu. At my age, I won't invest in stories where the Mangaka is laying down track in front of a rushing train as I keep drumming up faint hope something good will happen.
@ Fujiwara_no_Sai Yeah, i agree. Good story telling is hard so sadly many authors just rely on tired tropes that they know will sell. One of the best romance manga I have read has the MC confess around
chapter 60 and then the manga continues on for 200 more chapters of character development because low and behold, relationships are hard and both people need growing. The true series drama is will they actually manage to stay together during High School.
It is great. Plus, it actual has really good comedy, especially once
the confession is out of the way.
My Monster Secret, if you are curious. The character growth in it is amazing. Even the side characters get fleshed out. By the time it is over, you feel invested in what seems like the half the damn school. It is one of the few manga that I actually cried on the last page.
