Geez...whatever it is that kept the world stable in this universe got their work cut out of them with this. I mean, come on..in a world with killer mascots, merman invasion, giant hands that can kill people because reasons, a briefcase that for some reason cause mass hysteria....SOMEONE would be handling the world..
For real, how is it that humanity has survived up to this point in this hellscape.
Maybe there are more "gray" fighters like those bald twins that can punch ghosts.
Or... someTHINGs are cultivating humans like cattle to feed all these horrors.

There are so many humanity-ending threats it gets comical. Pretty much any of the monsters that appeared should get national coverage, and several different ones are all simultaneously starting the end of the world.

I wouldn't be surprised if the only reason the entire planet hasn't gone bust is because there was a being like the reality warper in the archaeology story that just restarts the universe every time humanity gets wiped out.

These plant babies are honestly a minor threat compared to everything else.

Of all the stories so far, this has to be the most confusing one to me. It doesn't seem to be a world-ending level this time at least, but it's definitely an odd and confusing one. Which fits pretty well I think, some of the best horror is the type where we can't understand what's going on at all.

I really like these cases that are extra inexplicable. Just. Sort of a green nightmare.

Almost none of them would have a decent chance of ending the world.

The briefcase had the best chance, but that's over. Someone with willpower came by, picked it up, and buried it in a really deep hole. Or Q contained it. It was seriously close, though. One person livestreaming the contents of the briefcase could have screwed humanity.

The Evaros fruit people? As people get evicted from their bodies and turned into monkeys, the number of guardian monkeys will eventually increase to the point that no more fruit can be taken.

That kid that was supposedly some resurrected bad guy, in the house with several sealed doors? What powers does he even have? His followers seem to think he will end the world. But they are also crazytown. Dude probably can't do anything that a thousand other monsters can't do.

The merfolk invasion? Their brethren were able to be caught by the dozens like freaking salmon, what are they going to do in an invasion? They're going to get shot and sold and eaten.

They weather observation people from the other side? They're just people, once they get over here. They didn't want to invade, they wanted to immigrate. Most of the weird phenomena were probably due to the dimensional connection being there. Except the corpses.

The hands crushing people? That threat is actively contained.

The "plague" oni was only ever a regional issue in the first place. It can also be resealed if someone wanted to.

The evil AI might actually be a threat if it wanted to be, but there was no indication that it would try to end humanity. The entity got what it wanted, a soul and a life. It's probably going to just try and enjoy itself.

Almost all of the threats that we've seen will either burn out quickly, or are actually just a local issue in the first place. Gods and entities of great power generally seem to only effect a small region, even if they are portrayed as being eldritch horrors or something.

And on top of all that, the one entity that actually does have vast power and global reach is probably on humanity's side. The Designer.

So many things are incredibly dangerous in that world, but mostly on a small scale, to the people involved or nearby. Name the threat from any job and I can knock it down from imminently apocalyptic.

Wooooh. This one was interesting. We got "return to the sea you know you want to" a few times, think about the aquarium story. But this is a harkening back to the very first story with the restaurant guy, a sort of return to the woods...

Amazing, some of the worst Lobotomy Corp anomalies merged together in one story.
