While she can smell normal smells, she doesn't actually smell danger itself, she smells the supernatural, and the supernatural smells different to her depending on if its dangerous or not. So a normal creep doesn't register to her nose.

I feel Yume has definitely smelled the danger from "normal people" before. A creepy old man pretending to be a little boy might be sus but if he's not planning on doing anything nefarious her radar won't sound. He might just be another victim in whatever is going on.

as far as I remember it's been entirely just the supernatural, with an early job the school one having the fact that Yume couldn't smell anything from the "monsters" being a key hint to figuring out that they weren't actually monsters but just humans in disguise, though they also weren't looking to harm Yume directly. So this might just call for a reread lmao.

The reason Yume didn't smell anything during the School Arc was because she wasn't in any danger. The staff had no intention to hurt or harm the two, they just wanted to scare to make them break their promise and escape the school. Which would have eventually lead to their demise, but the immediate "threat" posed no real danger.

Compare that to the Jin-Yin Brothers, who as far as we know are completely human. When they were hunting the girls down Yume was able to smell the "Black" off them and avoided them for a month. The moment they had no intentions to harm them the smell left and the brothers were able to connect with the girls.
