I think the question is , if the evil clan was dead then why did the "good" clan even bring gray workers to sacrifice ? So even the good clan is doing shady shit as they're OK sacrificing innocent ppl for whatever scheme they're doing so it's more likely both clans were assholes
In Japan there are all kinds of reasons people honor the dead by visiting and taking care of their graves, and it includes graves of supposedly bad people to prevent their evil spirits from coming back and wrecking havoc. A famous example of this is Taira no Masakado's grave. It is possible that the Fujiyoshi used to do this but they eventually realized the Takaidzu would always body snatch visitors, so they started bringing in unwitting people to save themselves. Or perhaps, maybe even the "oppression" the Takaidzu were talking about was the Fujiyoshi doing everything they could over the generations to prevent the Takaidzu from fully resurrecting.

It looks like they were doing that to try to keep the evil clan curse at bay? though I don't know why it went tits up that time, maybe probaly due to shirahama's nose ability.

We have no clue what happened in the past, we have no clue who is telling the truth, which village was in the right. It literally tells us at the very beginning that no one knows the truth.

You can't trust the resurrected Takaidzu villagers that they were the victims because why would they out themselves as the villains now that there's no one to disagree?

You can't trust the town record saying the Fujiyoshis were the victims because it was written by the Fujiyoshis. Why would they record that they were the oppressors if there was no one to disagree?

History is written by the victors. No one knows the real truth.

Hough. Honest people are gullible indeed.... well. Not that it matters.

You dont live long in grey cases if you ask too many questions.

Hm, I see what the story is trying to say, but it's also very easy to go "history is so messy... it's written by the victors... who can say who enslaved whom..." and then just throw your hands up and declare that actually no one did anything to anybody and does it even matter. Whoever says that you shouldn't care too much about what happened in the past, is the one who benefits from you not learning. Why are things the way they are? Impossible to say, and it's very important that you not question it too much.

But then, that's a very American sensibility, isn't it? J-horror classically tells us to keep our heads down and avoid looking the monsters in the eye. Just ignore it, and keep going.

theres such a pervasive... stink, to these color tint chapters. I'm really very fond. That sense of uncertainty and discord...
