Hm, I see what the story is trying to say, but it's also very easy to go "history is so messy... it's written by the victors... who can say who enslaved whom..." and then just throw your hands up and declare that actually no one did anything to anybody and does it even matter. Whoever says that you shouldn't care too much about what happened in the past, is the one who benefits from you not learning. Why are things the way they are? Impossible to say, and it's very important that you not question it too much.
But then, that's a very American sensibility, isn't it? J-horror classically tells us to keep our heads down and avoid looking the monsters in the eye. Just ignore it, and keep going.
