With 11 bodies, each carefully maintained by the doctor to live as long as possible through good health practices and science. You could easily get close to 1000 years. 86 years each would get you to 950. 86 years is pretty reasonable.
77 years each would get you to 850.

It's basically asking yourself what the balance is between how long he could feasibly make each body last and what he considers "almost 1000 years".

So there have only been nine of him so far, based on that line.

However, you can count the number of heads on his necklace, and in one panel I found, he has ten visible with space for a few more on the other side. That's the second panel on page 7. So maybe "tenth me" was a translation error.

I disagree actually. Because he’s so smart that he can overlook this. Remember that he was concerned about this dangerous feeling inside him, and as a smart person, he probably curious about that, since it’s strange to him. Now when I smart person has something in their mind, they usually don’t give a f about everything else. I can tell because I’m also kinda smart (☞ºヮº)☞

also, he might not get the shrunken head at the beginning, but maybe after 3-4 times transferring. He keeps it for some reasons
