I'm so fukn confused

Is this one just a murderous spirit possessing people?

And what was it saying about oyatsu but inner feelings and anyone can be a killer?

So what the demon does is not possess ppl to randomly kill

But amplify and remove their inhibitions so they take any slight offense as super serious and worth killing over.

Husband kills otaku for ignoring him

Wife kills husband for bringing them to this island

Policeman kills wife cuz she was a suspect

Guy kills kid cuz he was annoying probably

it reminds me of a horror movie where the devil hop from one to another host exactly like this

So, the initial part about the people being survivors of the ship accident was a red herring, and the real thing going on is that some kind of spirit or demon is possessing people to amplify their desires to kill people. And it can jump from host to host.

there is way too many ghosts killing people in this series. I doubt the human population will last longer.
Every day IRL lots of people die due to many kinds of reasons, yet we're not declining due to births being higher than deaths.

Though, I would say the only real danger in this series was the briefcase job, where it apparently caused the decimation of a number of countries.

Love that the new detective is just for real whining and kicking on the ground because she hates supernatural stories so much.

Literally just crying "nooooooo, I hate this" when a ghost is mentioned.

"no no I hate when things are scary" 😂. Hope she's a recurring character. Her and Daida duo is gonna be some good shit

To be fair, she is a professional detective and thus she relies on logic and facts to solve cases.

The problem is that she's in a horror story and thus there's all these supernatural stuff to completely destroy her reliance on facts and logic, and she hates it.

Not necessarily a red herring, since the demon thing is probably removing the inhibition/amplify emotion like cromat said, it could have possessed the initial killer(Takada?). His face could be interpreted as being possessed in Chapter 62 pg.12, kinda? And the transmission of the possession seem to work in close proximity.

i don't think it was a red herring because the dude actually did end up killing the two. also, he's the one who invited everyone to this party to begin with and i doubt he was possessed during that time. not sure if he was possessed when he killed taue and mei though.

Hahaha, I like that the regular detective theorist girl throws a tantrum. It probably mirrors the author's own perception of people who "theorize" about horror stories, like... yeah, there's gonna be a supernatural twist you didn't see coming because who could have predicted that, idk, water is alive...

Speaking of that, I see the ending in very much the same way that I saw the end of the hot springs story. Not setting up a big long arc, but setting up a theme. "The horror is out there, the horror is real, the horror is uncontained." This story shares similar themes to Lucifer (2018)'s The Devil At Heart storyline, where the theme is that society is best contained when the devil exists. When people have a demon to pin their fears on. When terrible things happen, not because people are capable of doing terrible things, but because the devil is real and he is powerful and he moves our hands. To quote Judge Claude Frollo: "It's not my fault//if in God's plan//he made the Devil so much stronger than a maaaaaaan."

So yeah kids. Don't blame your failings on a demon possessing you.
