I suggest playing the game as soon as you can, the story is a minefield of spoilers and while I doubt this spinoff manga will get into them, you may easily run into them if you see people discussing it.

Having beat the game a good many moons ago, it's interesting to experience more of it in manga form. I think they've done quite well with the expressions and carrying the designs over.
