Thats how it should have ended.

If they wanted post time skip drama, then they could have had kouki dealing him always being in love with Rin while having to technically be her brother. Mix in some stuff with him being a playboy or delinquent as a way for him to avoid having to face the fact that he can't have Rin. etc etc etc

Its still cheese but I would have taken that any day of the week over what we got.

@t28 I agree with you! At first I thought it was just a simple parenting based story. After a certain point, i was sure that it'll become a love story, but incest was something i never thought.

Though I had trouble accepting the weird turn this manga made, I've had the fortune to find some possible explanations for why Rin would be like that and why their relationship could technically work. I still have trouble accepting it (and I fully appreciate the anime not including the time skip), but I can appreciate the attempt at something wholly unexpected.

@waldo220 I wouldn't even call it something wholly unexpected. It was just the thing nobody wanted to expect (though I guess in many cases that can be the same thing), but the mangaka felt like doing it just to show she can do it. Almost like an exaggerated version of Harry and Hermione not ending up together.

@Kaarme Wait, why are you expecting Harry-Hermoine??? Please explain, I don't really see how (with the obvious Ron ship) they were suggested to end up with each other, other than the 3rd movie.

Also, it was, for the most part, unexpected (maybe they started hinting at it after the time skip). Though that end did have some...logical sense behind it? I forgot where but I saw a post explaining it.

@waldo220 Rowling herself has said in an interview it might have been a mistake to not make them end up together, and that she didn't make it happen for personal reasons (which is of course the author's prerogative). If you didn't see it, it's because she didn't write it and you were a shipper of some other coupling. However, it was clearly the fan favourite simply because they were the main male protagonist and the main female protagonist. She was clearly the most interesting female of the same age as well.

I know there are some people who are actually happy with how this manga ended for reasons/tastes I won't ever understand. But it's a matter of taste, so it doesn't matter whether I understand it or not.
