I was impressed by Kiri's response, he always struck me as more bratty. Yanagi is positively brimming with devilish energy. I think you're taking it way too seriously, seems more like Fujio is taking the opportunity to create a stronger relationship between the family and Sakurai, using the whole "family accepting him" thing as an excuse.
