Now I'm also feeling bad that they were like, building this nice ensemble cast but everyone else just kind of phased into the background for the last few chapters without getting to say or do much of anything. It's almost like the introduction of Al-Kamil/Ghika put the entire series on a fixed collision-course to an ending without the author able to change out of it. The vibe and pacing really shifted at that point.
