Not 100% sure this would be the reaction. People from low sugar cultures often find high sugar foods too sweet. Like the culture shock when Asians try western desserts and find them too sugary and fatty.
Plus the reverse culture shock when westerners try Asian sweets and find that they prefer them due to not being too cloyingly sweet and fatty, and also having interesting flavors like red bean or chestnut.
