Am i missing something or wouldn't it be extremely easy for the mc to just kill someone else and display them to prove that they weren't the real vigilante?

Unless they try to spin that the real vigilante is an imitator, or the murdercop hoping that MC takes this opportunity to get off his crimes scott free instead of continuing to act as the vigilante

Pretty much this, yeah. The press conference made sure to muddle the issue. What I like about this series is that all the main characters are very clever and make strategic moves against each other. This beats any run-of-the-mill death game series any day.
