What even happened in this chapter… I can't even.
I always said that what I like about this series is that it doesn't glorify vigilantism. All vigilantes and wannabes so far have been nutjobs and maniacs who don't set an example to anyone with the head screwed on right. Jiyong included, of course. And now we're seeing where the derangement leads. Gosh.
So it was strangely satisfying to see Jiyong not just outwitted but cornered with his own logic. Turns out he isn't the only discount Raskolnikov around, eh? Though I gotta say Seongcheol's deranged father complex totally weirded me out.
I wonder about the exact degree of Yeongji's complicity. The most charitable reading is that Seongcheol set the thugs to harass her when Jiyong was looking for an alibi for the injuries he got from fighting Gang-ok, and after Jiyong saved her Yeongji did the rest on her own initiative, infatuated as she was. The least charitable reading is that she's a party to the whole plan. Also… this is not a retcon, CRG thought the whole thing up back in season 1 already, Jiyong was questioning the coincidences around Yeongji in the lead-up of the climax of that season.
And damn, death flag on Gang-ok. This series won't be the same without him. There's no way he can survive this. And he'd almost triumphed over his father, too.
