I really like that Merry made Chad a genuine nice-guy. He has his bad points, like not caring to learn Kyle's name, but he's never done anything against anyone and has actually helped or defended others. The moral is also quite nice. The world isn't against you but it isn't your friend either, some people are born luckier than others but you can work to make yourself a better person. Also, even if you don't work to be a better person, there are people around you that care or like you. You just have to open your eyes and listen to your surroundings, perhaps what you've been looking for is already besides you.
