i agree with the people saying he's doing this to be with lerajie/"rewrite" the book. he foresaw the events of the book in a prophecy (or maybe lived it and did some time travel magic or something) and saw the miserable ending that was in store for all of them if lerajie and the king get together. i don't know if he's helping ginger with an actual desire to help her or just as a way to protect lerajie from the fate of being killed by izana. he's a little sus.

I dunno, I think Hamel likes the king too and he’s using Ginger to save the king as much as it is to save Lerajie. Also looking like this time around he might fall for Ginger instead of LeRage since I cannot believe that anyone would pass over Ginger in favor of someone who actively steals her “friend’s” SOs.

Here’s what happened y’all (at least what I’m predicting with a little bit of thought). After the storyline in the book plays out and the other red haired girl dies Hamel is overcome with grief, sorrow, and regret after standing by meekly and watching the one he loved suffer and die violently. So he spends however many years working on magic to travel back in time where he writes the novel and arranged for Ginger to find it so she will take the present it her own hands and hopefully become entangled with the prince instead of the red haired girl in hopes to save the red haired girl and possibly his love for the chick. This is just speculation btw- I haven’t read ahead or anything but it’s what I’ve come to conclude from reading up until this chapter.
