The MC has doubts concerning infecting the girl not because possessing a human is pretty evil, but because he could get caught doing it.

Why are isekai MCs such sociopaths?

I guess every virus needs to plan for Falma. Cos I don't think sword-using era can deal with viruses like the MC.

Also kind of think that going full conquest is pretty boring and stupid.

People really want the guy to go Plague Inc. on the world? I wouldn't mind that if it were treated like some sort of horror story, or a dark comedy, but for a seemingly light-hearted isekai? I don't think a protagonist that's completely devoid of empathy and just infects everything without care would be fun to follow.

Actually, I agree with the MC on that point, though not for this superficial reason.
The girl looks like she comes from a medieval setting, so it seems unreasonable at first glance that they would have advanced medical knowledge.
However...
1. It's obvious that the MC has supernatural abilities. (A sentient virus with the memories of a reincarnated human who can absorb skills from its host and review them in a game-like interface.) It's fair to assume that there might be magic skills to treat diseases.
2. Even taking magic out of the picture, "goblins" prove that it's a different world. Culture and technology could have evolved differently from Earth. Even if weaponry looks primitive, medicine might be advanced enough to treat diseases, sentient or not.

In any case, the risk is pretty low that the people there will be too wary of a friendly wolf compared to a human (disease-wise I mean, they might still be wary of the wolf for more obvious reasons unless they are all "dumb, careless creatures"). The MC doesn't know yet if he triggers visible symptoms. And that's not necessarily something he can control: if the host body rejects the virus, that might not be something he can control as the virus.

But the good way outweighs the bad. Not only is the risk low but the reward is high as he can now control a human and enter human civilization and infect more people. Not only that but he literally have nothing to lose as he still has the wolf to control if, like you said, rejects the virus. The risk is very low and even if you fail to control her, you literally have nothing to lose, who wouldn't take this chance to infect a whole bunch of new people? The dumbass reason the author gave just so that girl could enter into his harem as a logical means of action is what upsets me most.

@Lustrius What? Infecting a pigeon and entering a city is ways better than possessing a human for contagion... Even if you're a human, just to enter a city you need to go through some regulations... And it's not like you can go anywhere once you're there either... Possessing a human is only useful after he finds a way to spread the disease with his clones, but even then, since he's a virus, he should also be slowly killing his own body so he'd need to swap bodies over and over

Dude doesn’t see that as a sign of low awareness towards illnesses, he may be a smart scientist, but he is no sociologist

@Bramia no, that's not how disease works. All microbes, from Viruses to Bacteria and the like, ideally cause at most discomfort to their host. It's when a pathogen goes from one species to another that it goes from maybe a comorbidity to a plague. Covid allegedly came from bat stew if you remember.

@DSiren Exactly. And what has he been doing this far? Jumping from species to species, increasing his bullshit skills (which are obviously going to be the easy way out of everything for the author). According to the MC, he's evolving faster than any other organism. Don't forget he also multiplies very quickly regardless of his will. He also somehow takes over the nervous system of other organisms...

I'm not calling the MC's infection a disease, but do you really need more things to see that it's going to harm the host? On another note, how he can still think while being a virus is a story for another day...
