Depending on the game, summons or tamed creatures may be pretty OP when used in PvP.
Ultima Online days again, had a legendary ridable skeletal dragon which had armor ignore breath, pretty good PvM but used on a player it could one shot most players, couldn't use it during tournaments but hunting outlaws was fun.
Had a Rune Beetle which was also banned from PvP tournaments due to bleed attack, high level poisoning and resistance dampening attack in a single shot...
Then admins removed use of creatures with a pack instinct, because if a tamer used more than one of a monster, their damage grew up to 100% and with trained pets with higher skills they obliterate a player before they would land a hit.
Finally they decided to just make tamers PvP between themselves only : /
