We're definitely heading into a game of flirt chicken and Renako is going to snap and just kiss her, determined to get the win, but not realising that means Kaho wins.

Its kinda weird that the image she had of renako was completely different than reality despite that, but it seems like shes finally realizing its wrong
Well yeah, they went to different schools, and knew Renako only from cram school. Where they had a lot of one-on-one nerdy talks, which she is actually good at. Plus she was bragging about her own school and popularity, which Kaho believed of course (unlike Ajisai who immediately knew the 'boy she liked' was fake). And in the new school, she was already playing her new character, so it matched with Kaho's earlier views of her.

Mmm, selfish is what your are violence-chan

I had no clue brainwashing through repetitive words wore off after won emotionally taxing moment, noted I'll be better

Fancy wine glasses... What's in them?

I'm starting to notice renako has a weird thing with trying to get even whenever she's gets messed with like so often, I wonder if this is her subconscious trying to equate herself to her friends or more of a contradiction to her current character, because she indeed is very complex, which is why I can't hate renako for long...

Well ain't that a cliffhanger to dip on?
Well I hit the quota...
Imma drop a nuke of a comment in an hours approximate
Have a nice day in advance, I need to explore my overall thoughts...

Alright I've had enough
I've reached the end of the council's demand and have to explode all thoughts, long ahh comment so don't bother reading it if you don't read Yuri critically or morally as I do…
I just need to drop it somewhere so I have it somewhere, actually this may end up as kind of a summary of all my comments throughout this story… so many essay long thoughts… well I mean I can always go longer
After 67 chapters, it should be enough for me to truly judge this story for what it's worth and see if this worth still following and I judge…
Fucking ass
To me anyways
But I see promise so I'll check back sometime in the future…

Ok look let's start with the few upsides I can recall
The art is genuinely good, i like looking at it, and the characters are very expressive through the art, I first saw musshus work on the éclair Anthology quintilogy and it's just as fire as then, always a stand out
There are hints of good writing like with renako
Renako, No legit I like renakos character, although from what I can recall her only true development, only true change up to the end of Ajisans arc is her simply becoming more outgoing but- wait getting ahead of myself, she's trying to be more outgoing and more outspoken, the lil snippets of something deeper, a constant theme and issues that plague her throughout the story, which goes through a glorious evolution after Ajisan's arc closes and Ajisan confesses to renako, causing her to spiral and think she's unworthy of love even more, renako struggles with loving herself and this is a fascinating premise, I like that, feels like we're finally getting somewhere and it's the dilemma I'd love to see her work through, was also really fun to see this drive her to spiral into darker and darker thoughts
I like everything about Ajisan, I will ship her with renako till the day after die cause their dynamic finally gave me the vibes of genuinely good Yuri, compelling Yuri, while every other character with renako has something that takes away from their dynamic for me, I'll get into later… probably, Ajisan has no issues that take away from the Yuri, she is without flaw every other character seems to have, moral flaw that is, I love seeing her on screen and knowing she's not likely to pull anything that'll make me rip my eyes out, she's just a sweet girl that deserves better,
Deranged-chan, aka Satsuki is funny with her blunt no sugar coated personality, I liked her dynamic with renako too their conversation bounce nicely and fun to see
Violence-chan, aka Kaho, violence, manipulation, I like to see these in certain situations, although her character is really interesting, feels like another mirror to renakos in a different way than Ajisan
Mai is at least mindful of renakos issues enough to step in when she's overwhelmed, that is all
Despite my issues the character work at times does indeed shine

Now my issues, warning this may get ranty
And, can confirm, Mai faces no actually repercussion for her actions, her reflection that rape is bad while definitely glad should have happened, the story itself has not applied the same logic to kisses without consent
It's not a healthy Yuri relationship I'm watching develop
It's a girl who feels entitled to the girl she's obsessed with, slowly break down her walls and force her to fall for her through the power of persistence and STOCKHOLM SYNDROME, so it will forever remain unhealthy cause Mai won't change to be more accommodating and renako would sooner give into Mai than grow through her issues and grow a spine, put a pin in that well definitely circle back to Mai

Deranged-chan as funny she is, she's deranged for a reason insisting the victim apologize to her assaulter, and in her arc she becomes Mai 2.0 only she surprise kisses for reasons not just lust… most the time, there's also her blunt personality validating renakos issues too as she tends to put her down a lot, id also describe her as wise words and harsh truths, she probably still remains my favorite since she had an actual conversation with renako start of her arc but this is more I find her funny and her character fun, I don't ship her with renako because she would legit make renakos issues worse unless like her personality shifts for some reason

My true favorite is Ajisan although I've one problem, and my problem with Ajisan isn't the character she's a brilliant reflection of renako in how they have similar issues, no my issue comes with how they completely shut down any hope for them getting together, not leaving it ambiguous just she never talks about her love for renako again, ya just cut of your own foot cause that was the only saving grace of their story, but wait it's not only that cause then the fucking walk back on “she never mentioned it again” or just lied, i know the light novels exist, like what was the point of that lie? If this was some stunt to provoke some emotions it overall weakens the story because there was the belief Ajisan was legit taken out the running
Although minor mention, every scene she's in with Mai makes it hard to really absorb her character, those moments of reflection always happen when she's with Mai painting mai in this brilliant light when ajisans obviously the best option for renako and offers the cutest dynamic

And violence-chan where to begin? It would appear someone dialed up the humor in this arc because there's a lot more gags and goofy shit happening to the point I missed the literal brainwashing taking place, what can I say my brain lagged, my issues with violence-chan isn't so much the brainwashing, while bad but more the fact she seems to feel no remorse for it, this is your childhood friend and a girl you claim to love very much yet you've no emotional response to her mind breaking like this, and you've no issue testing it on her when you've never even tested it before, no what if something goes wrong just straight she's gonna do what i want which is another thing cause shes manipulative like hell, all of this is so renako becomes the best candidate for her cosplay stuff, and the worst offense of all she had me hype for some renako character development but thanks to her I got cheated and slapped with conditioning instead, the AUDACITY, IS THIS YOUR FAULT NARRATIVE, ARE YOU TAUNTING ME

MAI SECTION (she deserves her own bit I guess)
Now there are small attempts to redeem mais character not by her actually going through the effort to become a healthy partner for renako or properly atone for her sins, show some guilt long term because those are some damn stupid ideas, overtime she shifts into someone who poses as the ultimate love interest for renako and the ultimate friend for the likes of Ajisan but has not done anything to prove this role belongs to begin with, every convo she has with Ajisan I find small things to nitpick about sure but they point towards the overall issue that the way Mai views renako has not changed and Mai is just as Mai was early on, just with a new paint job so we can bury what Mai did in chapter 14, it's not relevant to the story
One thing that continues to shine about mais character is her understanding of renako, in specifically the way renako handles overwhelming situations Mai can step up for renako when needed there, yet Mai lacks understanding in renako shown when she constantly brushes off renakos problems as stuff that will fix itself or she'll get over over time, she literally states
"She says she isn't interested in dating right now, I think it's only a matter of time though”
Yeah because your wearing her down with persistence forcing her to eventually fold under the pressure and fall in love with her captor, renako is the prize, she is the woman Mai has fixated on and Mai is overly confident WILL end up with Mai because Mai is a spoiled rich girl who gets whatever she wants she just happens to also be patient
Ah and need I add Mai isn't narratively challenged at all? She punishes herself at the start of the story for almost doing the unforgivable to renako but that's not the narrative and she gets a slap on the wrist because satsuki is deranged, after that there are no cases of the narrative punishing Mai for her actions, she comes more often than she goes and whenever she forces a kiss on renako, she's rewarded by renako's reaction and none else happens, when she says something concerning no one even mentions it, often reading it as something admirable cough cough Ajisan cough the narrative does not punish her if anything it puts her up on a pedestal where she can do no wrong, accept for when she did do wrong but nope that didn't happen, it glazes Mai harder than the dumbass illiterate Mai stans do
And you know what I can finally put my finger on why I felt so off reading Ajisan and mais chat in 58.6, I realize my main issue is that Mai is glazed to kingdom come by the narrative as the person Ajisan should aspire to be and Ajisan definitely believes it so, it frames Mai as the definitive love interest the one you should look up too yet her actions and personality do not justify the glazing, it's like the story is picking favorites and just decided to ignore mais complete lack of understanding on boundaries, Ajisan praises Mai and sees her behavior as something to be admired and that's the issue, NO ONE should imitate mais behavior
To cap this section i wanna run through mais toxic traits that go beyond the constant boundaries violation, Mai is overconfident in her love, unwilling to accept other routes she's not already in line with, sees love as mainly something for her own self satisfaction, deals with jealousy harmful as learning renako kissed deranged-chan leads to three counts of assault, love only shown through physical affection, and renako tunnel vision I'm sure there's more I could mention but that's the jist, I feel I noted everything now even if I technically have more

Some smaller stuff, renako shouldn't absolutely been long term effected by Mai almost raping her, a trusted individual betrayed her trust like that yet it's only brought up in passing after the fact then it's never really brought up again, it doesn't effect the plot long term it's just a stain on mais reputation that only really her, renako and deranged-chan know

Remafriends hasn't been mentioned in 15-20 chapters give or take, last plot relevant post deranged-chans arc… let that sink in…

I've realized I'm holding everyone in this story to a moral standard that simply doesn't exist here… huh

Part of analyzing Yuri is well to me, it's incorporating how it makes me feel, that's the most important part as well as noticing what I notice but when it comes to judging the Yuri, one of the things to consider is the intended story, what story is the author trying to tell? And are they succeeding?/have succeeded? And honestly the story's all over the place at this point in the checkpoint I couldn't tell you the intended plan if you asked, harem? Mai endgame? Both are just as plausible but then there's the fact half the cast are just horrible humans in general, not in a fun way, could the actual story here be a tale about not letting people walk all over you and take advantage of your people pleasing curse to make you do stuff that makes you uncomfortable? I don't fucking know and that bothers me, I don't know what story it's telling and in each case it fails in some way, it's ridiculous

I shall also note the possibility Mai gets redeemed in the future when I return and she becomes genuinely a great character, fat chance, but I'll eat my words if I see it actually happen

I should also clarify all my hate comes from love as I want the Yuri to truly become something I hold dear in a positive light... Even if I be a lil harsh at times, I try to give credit where it's due, the reason I've stuck around so long is that I truly believe there is something here that could turn into something great in the future, and so placed is my faith…

SATSUKI X MAI FOREEEEVER-
