I know flanderization is far from being a novelty at this point (Yuri, Komiyama and Yoshida as the most noticeable examples), but what makes the situation particularly annoying with Tomoki is that nowadays we are seeing only his angry side 100% of time compared to he being the "levelheaded" contrast to Tomoko(and her classmates)'s stupidity before (he even smiled in one chapter where he was talking to his male friends).

I think it's fine for him to be frustrated by unwanted advances and his own unfortunate situation with the play but from those latest chapters, he became ironically worse than Yoshida. And yet we pretty much don't see any real consequences whatsoever for this behavior similar to like, Tomoko being made fun of for her appearance or for looking at penis pictures on her phone, or Nemo's friends's silence when Nemo made weird noises in the movie, or Fuuka making girls uncomfortable by her crass attitude. Tomoki tells girls to die, Tomoki nearly cripples one of them, Tomoki acts like a literal delinquent and yet nope! Status quo preserved! It's painful because he doesn't even like any of those girls so of course we aren't gonna see Tomoki doing any emotion that isn't being pissed.
As a result, we end up getting a loop of the same jokes over and over with no expectation of growth or even some barebones change out of these chapters.

The only distinct feeling Tomoki has showed to harbor so far is that he seemingly has unsolved feelings for Tomoko from their childhood (we don't know yet if she's the reason he doesn't seem to be interested in girls or if he's unwillingly Tomokosexual). So.... yeah, unless the writer finally pulls something out of his ass to justify he becoming into another character, from the hints we were given so far, all of these chapters will amount to nothing besides short-term jokes.

I do think the flanderization of the characters is very real, this manga has gone from a "Tomoki constantly making an ass of herself for thinking life works like a manga" to what basically another yuri gag-manga. Yet, despite the original point of Watamote being lost I'm not going to say I dislike where it's going. Yes older characters have become a bit flat but there's also been some fun new ones introduced. In the last few chapters the characters have been interacting in new ways which also breathes a lot of new life in the manga.

I mean, boys and girls have diferent social structures in the micro-cosmos of a school, so i don't think the diference in treatment is that strange.
It's very common for girls to judge each other for small diferences in apearence and behaviour, and to be secure in doing it because it is a social thing. They don't fear to judge Tomoki for her behaviour and apearence because every other girl does the same, so they have security in numbers. Hell even the new school comite president felt okay to do it to her just 2 chapter ago, even tough she is a know figure in the school and could be punished for doing something others think is out of the ordinary. She's not atractive by conventional parameters, short in stature, frail of body and has strange hobbies for a girl her age and that's all the background bistanders will see.
Then there's the brother, good at sports, good at socializing, as older women crushing for him, is the lead on his class play and of course is a boy. Aside from his close friends and classmates i doubt most other characters would have a good reason to question his behaviour, since most of them don't have the same context to whats happening as us readers do.
All that say'd i think flanderization is kind of inevitable once you hit a certain amount of characters, otherwise characters risc becoming "lesser clones" of each other. It's the price we have to pay for a diverse cast i guees -\(ºcº)/-

It's crazy too because it is acknowledged that people noticed Tomoki's attitude as well as how he attacked Sayaka to the point that she can barely put weight on her left leg yet everyone brushes that aside.

Their class play will have a lot of different endings at this point.

Good thing Komi-something is there to know all the variations.

Okay, some good points and I was with you until suddenly

What even the hell
Did the chapter where it’s shown that Tomoko was the only girl Tomoki kissed before (and he was visibly distraught by it compared to how unfazed he is with any other character) went unnoticed by you? And I’m saying it as someone that doesn’t even care about the incest ship. Tomoki loved Tomoko to the point of wishing to marry her when they were kids (it was shown in a early sidestory).

Current Tomoki dislikes how Tomoko grew out to be but he deep down still harbors feelings of affection (when he mistakes a classmate complimenting Asuka’s looks by thinking the classmate was attracted to Tomoko instead or when he had a dream of a flashback where she gave him a blanket).

This is why I’m saying unsolved feelings, might not be necessarily romance (although we still don’t know much of what’s inside his head anyway), the objective takeaway is that he’s only shown a distinct emotion that isn’t anger or neutrality towards Tomoko so in a sense he‘s in a similar place to Kiko. Which is why I think there’s more buildup towards Tomoki having some kind of disclosure with Tomoko herself rather than any of these girls.

Okay, you know what...I think that's a really bizarre way to interpret what happened, but if that's what you want to think, there's no reason to stop you. Enjoy things how you want.
I reiterated over and over that I don't care about Tomoki specifically because of how shallow his writing is. It's simply about the fact that he being "angry" or "finding characters annoying" for several chapters straight gets tiresome quick.

Don't bother replying to people here if you are just gonna pretend things straight from the manga don't exist on top of not even read what they say then, lol. Enjoy living in complete ignorance of what was literally the original fanship of Watamote that a massive amount of fans still like to the point that the author still puts innuendos to this day every now and then (and the writer is well-known for including things in reaction to how well-received they are among fans).
