I could base the characters very loosely off mangadex people (not using the same names or rl tid bits or anything, just personalities)

lol. Then it'll be like that one webnovel/anime series, where theres only limited classes, powers available, and so everyone has to get first dibs on them while avoiding the landmines (bad or useless skills).
