I really enjoyed this. It turned out a lot more wholesome than I expected. I also like the idea and slice of life feel. That said it's hard to call it unique. The setting and hell tropes are all out there. This really reminded me of a more tame version of Death Parade. The timing is also... curious (lol) with Hazbin Hotel getting it's Amazon original. However, the way the tropes were used still felt great to play out (even if I could tell where things were headed a mile away).
I love the idea too but unfortunately I imagine it would get sucked into becoming a comedy and lose focus of what made this one shot so gooe
Yeah a series like this would need to be character driven... which serialized weekly/monthly Manga tend to have a hard time with. They typically fall back on most generic drama tropes. Even if they don't, they tend to feel rushed because each usual chapter is never as long as the one shot even though they kinda need to be (at least 30ish pages) to do the necessary character work (especially assuming it's like what I think it is and we get a new foil character (arrival to hell) every chapter.
That's not to say it can't be good. But this type of premise is difficult to work with in a serialized setting. It's be like if the twilight zone or doctor who were written on a week by week basis. This is something the author typically needs more control over when writing (in terms of time and planning). Character driven stuff also tends to draw in readers less, so it leans on the popular drama tropes to fabricate unnecessary conflict that drive more casual readers. Which always really hurts the character focus. Then there's the issue of pacing which is a female donkey to work with in a character driven premise when writing weekly.
All that said this does really feel like a more tame death parade and I like the idea. If it does get serialized I'll be rooting for it.
