i guess my theory is she has some complex about men and wanted to fix it with the least threatening man she could find. somehow, his traits are the least threatening to her. maybe because she understands them the most. but she's neurotic enough she had to stalk him a bunch first to make sure. but she should still be getting repelled the closer she gets, not attracted. i don't see how there can be any good explanation for that.

I really suspect this kind of story would turn out to be "it was all a dream" and he was dying from overdosing
