I guess the ending theme here, is Satou felt conformed & bounded by society, that all his choices were directed by societal expectations... Whether it be good grades, being a failure (hikki), or doing what Misato says. How he couldn't love anything, because he never made a decision of his own volition... But, after going through all that he has, he finally made a decision, a thing to love: Misaki.

... But, still, this ending was abrupt and open ended. Also, felt slightly uncharacteristic of Satou to just run out like that. Like, it's nice to see that Satou has found himself, being he's the main character and all. But, what is Misaki up to, huh? She's equally as important & relevant to the plot.

Nevertheless, relating to the other comments here, I haven't seen the anime or read the novel, so i cannot say my precedences just yet. But, I can say I look forward to the anime, and possibly the novel as well. Ty4t.

Felt like a rushed ending NGL. I was waiting to see some more stuff or a clearer resolution, of some sort.

I might just go for the anime to see how it ends tho.
It's because I binge read that thing in one day so it's all a mess on my head, but I expected some time skip interaction....

Issues don't feel very fixed unless we're talking about the NEET thing.
But I like that they're ending up together
