Watch out, some users have the banned title while unbanned since they never logged back out to update their profile. Check if you can open a conversation with them to see if they are banned or not.
Here's some examples of users who have the banned title while not actually banned: @MangaMasterOfMangaDex, @D0ncoming5torm, @TheGodEmperor

He doesn't have the title. I assumed he was banned because his profile says it is unavailable, not that he limits who can see it.

Edit: Is it possible that he simply set his profile to be unavailable to everyone? His last login was in May of 2025 Not possible, thanks 🙏

Normally I block people if they purposely annoy me or someone I’m friends with. I’ll also block them if they’re just genuinely insufferable to deal with.

I ignore trolls and annoying people.
And it's not even real "blocking" because I learned from my anonymous source that ignoring a user doesn't even prevent them from following you.
Edit: I realized that would reveal that you're ignoring them... hm...

Oh, there is also mainsite blockage, I use that for snipers and bad uploaders, it has a practical usecase for me there

do threads still get bumped if they're necro'd by someone on your ignore list?

Ignoring hides threads created by a user and don't appear in the last five posts of the forum (it just features less), plus you don't see their profile posts. For instance, I ignore the dead user who created LLG (thread) so I don't see it either. But yes, for the rest it still bumps them and if the last comment is from them it appears a ? default bro on them.
