I think I preferred if in the end, the girl ended up with another guy while he's still acting like a teenager and growing up as a person to actually take action rather than relying on fate.

Nahh. The recent chaps def feels like a cop-out. They can't suddenly just say, "ohh turns out u guys R actually fated to be together." It defies the whole plot point of what makes this story interesting. It would've been much more interesting if they knew they weren't tied together & still end up together. They weren't with who they were fated to be with but they were still very happy with their choice
