I don't understand why she actually loves him but whatever

This is one messed up, scary af situation for her to be in. Yet it's even more complex bc of her feeling for him.

@jellu nope nope. She doesn't love him. She loves Lexi. The one entity or if you want, call it personality that was born from the MAGIC SPELL that she unintentional did.

Since gypsies = witchers or warlocks [according to folklore], then the MC will be related to magic. Even if she is not a witcher. Maybe her mother knew someone or the mother was the witcher and put a protection spell on her child or ask someone to do to protect her.

THIS IS WHY every time the DUKE resurfaces, she begins to cry because she is not ready to escape (she is saving money and a exist route. She needs to erase all type of trace cuz the Duke is rich and a person with influence and power. She can't just disappear at least the duke personally kill her). But out of luck is noticed that by calling Lexi, Lexi resurface and lock the Duke

@darkwolfix i understand that the person that she loves is Lexi.

However what I dont understand is that why she loves him. She is fully aware that he is not a real individual and the love was born from a spell. Her love just seems really sad.

@jellu because at first she thought that it was another person/entity. She didn't understand that Lex IS a part of him. A fraction of what makes the Duke. He just locked it in his heart. You gotta remember she is a victim of domestic abuse. Her mother was too sick to defend her and the MC never reported it to her mother because she was too sick. Do you see the cycle? yes she is a victim and sadly the victim contribute to her suffering by not communicating. That is one of the errors, we human beings can't understand. This is why history always repeats.

Lex was her only way to escape reality. It is after months that she began to understand that Lex is not her love since the spell began to wear off, and the duke began to show up more and more. This is the reason why she wanted to eliminate/kill the duke [that is what it means when she says she will look for a spell to bring back Lex. A personality can't be removed without killing the other for good. The story IF we look it deeply is very cruel. It has so many twists. This is why most readers don't look in the real/logical consequences of how things will turn out.]

the euphoria of having someone who loves her blind her until later. That is why she loved him and didn't think of anything else in the beginning.

It is why after many chapters she realized that Lex is the duke but a part that he wanted to forget and bury it in his heart. This is why she ended up calling for him, the duke's full name, when she casted another spell
