Kiria's design is absolutely disgusting, but everything else about this is great. It feels very retro in that it's just a grand adventure right out of the gate. The worldbuilding was short and to the point, and it immediately introduced the most important aspects right away. Hake being mute is kind of pointless since him being mute currently (as of chapter 4) has no purpose besides keeping all the yapping to Kiria. Thee might be a reason behind it later, like his voice is too strong or something, but still.
Neat monster designs too. A few are a tad generic, but the majority feel unique and interesting. They're not just background fodder like you often see in monster-centric stories either, as each one seemingly has some kind of purpose. I mean, some ARE background fodder early in chapter 1, but still. Algiz, which only had a brief scene, is already my favorite one shown so far.
