Why the imperial family is never mentioned in manga?

Is it because contemporary Japanese don't give a f* about them, or is there some sort of taboo (it's forbidden or dangerous to depict them in fiction)?

I've been wondering for a while, I've seen manga mentioning the prime minister, but never the imperial family

I'm not an expert on Japanese culture (yet), but the Tennou usually isn't even brought up on any kind of every day conversation. The Emperor still remains as the sort of divine figure it was before the defeat on Second World War, even after talking to His people. And this is just a guess, but maybe with all His showing up everywhere nowadays, locals try to maintain His sacredness by not mentioning him, as a counter attack.
PD: In this corner of the world actually shows the moment he gave a speech to its people, though.
