Just realized this isn't published in a yuri magazine so it's honestly no wonder it got axed just like that Sylph yuri manga which also published in non yuri magazine

Yuri mangakas really need to stop publishing in non yuri magazines cause it has a way higher chance of getting axed :aquadrink:
Vampeerz, Kiss and a White Lily, MahoAko, Happy Sugar Life, Futaribeya, Kase-san, Hana ni Arashi, Moon on a Rainy Night, Fuzori no Renri, Sekai to Ichiban Oppai ga Suki, How do we Relationship (god, I despise that title "translation"), Akuma no Riddle, Cheerful Amnesia, Watatabe, Konohana Kitan (that one started off in a yuri magazine (Yuri Hime S) and the whole mag was axed and moved to a non-yuri mag and is wildly successful), Monthly in the Garden with Ooya, and Akebi-chan have some serious issues with that comment you just made...
(There are actually more... Those are just the ones off my bookshelf that I can look at and list)...

There are multiple oneshots that manage to fit a satisfying story in 20-30 pages on this very website. The problem is that there are TOO many characters, and not enough time spent with already exsiting ones, every new character is an annoying interruption to learning about characters we already have. The sabbath story was introduced too early, the side characters started too numerous, it should have been a story of 90% 2-4 characters until the end of volume 1, with far more time being concentrated on the two main MCs and their internal development/goals.
Of course, if you are planning your work to be 30 pages, 3 chapters, or 10 volumes, you will plan for different pacing. A short story will be less complex, will have less buildup, and generally simpler structure and payoff. Something planned to be much longer can afford to introduce many concepts and characters early on and come back to them later. I think pacing was completely fine within those few chapters we got.

It's not like there were that many character - two protagonists, 4-5 side characters with any detail, and a good number of those that just passed by and can be fleshed out later. This is not excessive at all. Main storylines: Sadako's past, Sadako+Hanako, Sabbath vs outcast girls (minor conflict), Good witches vs Bad witches (major conflict). Also, completely manageable. Good amount of world building also introduced through events.

We can also assume that at least half of volume 2 was rewritten to some extent to fit into "ending", and we might have gotten a lot more space to flesh out the outcast group, and not just the initial 2 girls that were in the first half of it, with Sabbath and bad witches being completely left for later.

I feel like, again, you want to know too much, too quickly. That's not how you read a long-form story. Initially, you only get to know the characters on a surface level, and then you find out their goals and motivations through events. For now, we know that Sadako is very childish and enamored with the world, which she wants to explore. She is also interested in Hanako for, maybe, mysterious reason. Hanako, on the other hand, is lost in life, always feels out of place, etc. And is pulled by Sadako's childlike wonder and energy, and, maybe, also a mysterious reason. Good witches are split between "tradition" and "freedom" factions, and both of them oppose the Bad witches. I don't know, that just feels like a good amount of information introduced in a good amount of space. Assuming this was written for 10+ volumes, because that's how it reads. If the initial plan was to finish it in the next 2-3, then sure - it was a bit of a mess.

Sad this got axed, but the pacing and plot of those first few chapters is so critical to gain an audience and I can see people bouncing off this with too much going on off the bat and no clear line on what the story is "about".

Really too bad because the artwork is beautiful, with distinctive and really likeable character designs. Sadako and Hanako's faces are so expressive. I wonder if the artist could try working with a different editor or someone who can help with the storytelling side of things.

Yes exactly this, by chapter 15-20 maybe she could have been living in the city somewhere, or maybe still in the woods even. Making her just go wherever she wants, take whatever she wants, and do whatever she wants with no consequences or personality development was insane from the start and doomed this manga.

Honestly only stuck with this cause the first two characters and premise. Maybe it should have been a oneshot.

When did we find out she was immune to magic?
Like toward the beginning somewhere around whem we first met her. It was one of her main characteristics. I'm on mobile, so I can't be assed to look it up (but I'm sure somebody will)...

Some are saying it felt rushed, that there was not explanation, etc
I think the author planned to do a long series and get the answers eventually but it got dropped. It's WHY there aren't answers, it's WHY that are too many potential lost. There isn't a lot characters , the issues are there weren't enough chapters to develop things.
Very sad. Finally an manga with good representation of bodies and great art and great plot
She should publish on webtoon or others places that can let her run wild with her ideas.

In the end hanako finally excepts sadako
Sweet but I do wish there was more time for this final bit to breath to show her coming around more
That and I still care not for dem side characters, nuisances

All this just makes me more sad it ends so soon...

And BULLSHIT that's a blade and I saw it go through her, your not whitehead
Magic blade my ASS

There's only so much room in Yuri Hime or Manga Time Kirara. Sadly we're still being screwed by lack of publishing spaces for yuri.

Why all the false doomposting?
There are a SHITTON of mags other than Yuri Hime or MTK...
(And there are long-running series in both of those, too)

Sad it got axed but the way the author was able to get a somehow satisfactory ending is impressive. Hoping for an spin-off or something

a shame it got cut short, even just one more volume probably could have given it more breathing room to hit the major arcs it was going for at a more natural pace but it was still a nice conclusion given the limited page count Sal was working with.
