Honestly, I'm sad but can't say the axe wasn't unexpected. While the art is stellar and the premise was extremely interesting, the story itself isn't. Multiple parts of the narrations were hard to follow, and there was too much information packed without giving the ability to digest them, both for the characters (that as others said, were too many in too little time). I do understand the fear of the axe, but it would have been better to streamline the story that in a way even if the axe come it's easier to come with a final with fewer elements to resolve. Trying to put all these elements inside the first volume for fear of the axe, probably become the reason why the axed come in the first place, a self fulfilling prophecy.
