To me it's just a matter of demand/supply, there is a massive amount of GL in japan and not enough people to read them all, i've only seen the chinese market to have a lot of long lasting GL even though not a lot get attentions in the west sadly

I was thinking along the line, all the same. It is a big fat pity so much stuff has been getting cut short recently.

Can't say I know any good Chinese or Korean GL comics, the ones I follow all have similar story structure and are mostly ero-type.

to be fair, even for japanese gl it's often the same thing, outside of mangadex that you probably already follow, on the bilibili comics app you have some interesting (free to read, just time gated)
