So, the glyph for memory magic is public knowledge (for all witches), or Qiffrey just have some connection to get the glyph?
It's so fucked up how it can be done so easily and quickly without any consent of the target, unless Qiffrey have the glyph prepared beforehand which makes him all the more shady that he have that kind of glyph prepared in the first place.

Also, powdered scales from a fucking dragon just to make the ink glow in the dark? Wonder why he even bother stocking it.

@mage_goo because you can't draw glyph in the dark?

and I think qiffrey prepared the memory magic in his notebook, or steal the notebook when he barged the security guys...
I think he want to do something big magic but ordinary ink wont cut it... but let's see how it will go

@mage_goo: If I have to guess, Qiffrey was part of the Security force before. Then something happened and he came to the same conclusion as a lot of us that just erasing the memories of victims is stupid idea and quit.

And since the memory erasing magic seem to remove them all, the Security side let him leave with all that knowledge because otherwise they'd be erasing a witch who's done nothing wrong (openly)

If I'm not mistaken, a Witch is supposed to erase the memories of all people who saw them perform magic.
They may be taught a simple glyph for erasing memories from the last couple of minutes, while Magic Security may be taught more advanced memory-altering magic.

I'm more confused why Qiffrey even took the ink bottle to this other guy in the first place. All gramps did was look at it and say 'yes this looks like the same ink'. But Qiffrey was already suspecting that. In which case why couldn't he draw the magic by himself to confirm that
1. the ink is auto-refill
2. magic is enhanced exponentially
He really had no need to visit anyone else. Let alone erase their memory. Why not pour the contaminated ink into another vial and hand it over saying 'this was all I could find'. Which would allow you to pretend to be helping the investigation and likely ease off the pressure of the magic security since you're helping out.

Just seems like he was acting crazy this whole chapter.

@shoker probably he expected to get some idea of the ingredients or now exactly in wich ways it was enhanced.

Also it's a big difference for it to refill itself than to be refilled by someone else in another place (they could change the ink anytime for a simple one or with different properties).

Unless they've domesticated gold flare dragon, I don't see any reason why you'd choose that over a simple magic tool that acts like lantern, especially considering that light glyph is like, the most basic magic.
Even then, it doesn't really matter since witches are trained to draw glyph pretty much blindfolded to keep the truth from the unknowing.

That makes sense, actually.
People screwed up all the time and calling security every single time is not only a great inconvenience, but the delay might spreads the truth unnecessarily.

Though that brings up the question of why gramps doesn't have a good countermeasure against memory erase magic.
I mean, with that kind of things in play, you can pretty much rob a man blind and they won't even know.
Or maybe Qiffrey is just too competent and the normal countermeasure doesn't work.

Maybe that was a military grade ink that nowadays only brimmed hats use, that was in Coco's hands. it was refiled with the bottles glyph so it's a hint to the brimmed hats, but knowing the trigger happy security council they would erase everything including Coco's magic knowledge and call it a day, or worse, erase Coco from everyone's memory.
We don't know what happened but the council is much more interested in keeping themselves in power than catching the brims.

Qifrey obviously has a personal reason to track down the brims. Maybe one of them killed his wife, or something. He's not going to let the fascist Council or anyone else get in the way of his revenge. Alternatively he's seeking some blasphemous spell to use for his own purposes, but I reckon people would know about it if he had such a motive, and he would be observed all the time, so I don't consider this option as likely.
